I visited Zanzibar for the first time in September 2016. The country had a very large impact on the work I’ve been making, and instantly on arrival there I felt a feeling of peace and calm. My fathers mother came from Zanzibar, and I feel that by painting the island and its people and buildings, I find my own unique way to connect with her as she died when my father was a young boy.
